AREA: SLP, Hygiene of the Voice, Rehab in Performing Arts Medicine
This essay by dr Gucciardo, intended for scholars of the voice, in particular for doctors and rehab clinicians (SLPs and PhTs) who are interested in Performing Arts Medicine, treats – without the pretense of ultra-special precision; on the contrary, deliberately in a easy way, rich in fruitful ideas for an interdisciplinary scientific interplay – of General Medicine applied to the so-called “artistic vocology”.
Knowing is important for preventing and treating. In this sense, studying the voice has an inexpressible clinical, epistemological, hermeneutic and heuristic charm. In the sense of the PAM Doctor, the Phoniatrics, the Vocology and the SLP should also be conceived and suggested as an advantageous, careful and intelligent mélange of at least internal medicine for the voice, phonoaudiology for the voice, physiotherapy for the voice, psychology for the voice. This “contemplative-active” Cartesian work on voice and silence is aimed at favoring ecological contemplation of the subject. The text, which contains an appendix on laryngeal and extra-laryngeal manipulations, is introduced by the words of Andrea Ricci Maccarini (famous Italian phoniatrician and phono-surgeon) and is closed by a reflection by Yva Barthélémy, Parisian singer and scholar who is well-known for having given decisive contributions to voice studies.
The translation into Portuguese, into Arabic and into English is in progress.
